Technology and Innovation

Industry 4.0, also known as the Smart Industrial Revolution, was introduced at the Hannover Fair in Germany in 2011. It is founded on the principle of creating value through the automation of jobs and processes. This revolution drives digital transformation across all sectors, giving rise to new business models, redefining systems, and transforming working and communication methods. In the era of digital transformation and innovative production, businesses continue to invest in information technologies and systems to maintain a competitive edge. These technologies encompass cyber-physical systems, horizontal and vertical integration, the Internet of Things (IoT), autonomous robots, big data and analytics, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, augmented reality, cybersecurity, and smart factories.

As a result, a direct correlation exists between a country’s level of industrialisation and its overall welfare. In this context, integrating new technologies into daily life is crucial for ensuring adaptation. Therefore, beyond structural and technical advancements, societies and individuals must be prepared for these technological transformations. For this reason, the Technology and Innovation Research Unit under the BUSAM (Istanbul Beykent University Strategic Research Centre) has been established to conduct research and contribute to scientific studies in digital technologies and innovation.
